ABOUT HRS TRUE HOPE

Our history

2005

A small team traveled to Mississippi and Alabama to provide relief to people impacted by Hurricane Katrina. This led to more trips and more volunteers continuing to support the recovery and rebuilding in the Gulf Coast.

2006

Joel and Jackie Holcomb, David and Melissa Shiramizu and Mark and Eileen Rehmann founded HRS True Hope with the intention to organize and manage ongoing humanitarian projects and disaster relief.

2008

HRS True Hope began to support impoverished areas of Piedras Negras, Mexico. Pursuing a heart for orphanages and projects caring for children, HRS True Hope partnered with many churches and other non-profits. Many trips were made to Piedras Negras to provide food, provisions, education assistance and gifts to those in need.

2016

True Hope began to support orphans living at Children’s Shelter in Nairobi, Kenya and orphans living on the streets of Eldoret, Kenya. The focus has been on programs and methods dedicated to developing financial stability. In addition to providing food, clothing, medical assistance and education. HRS True Hope supports foundational capital construction. This includes water wells, dormitories and agricultural programs that generate recurring income. These avenues of revenue have allowed the Shelter to move away from donation constraints.

2017

After a major earthquake in Oaxaca, Mexico, HRS True Hope traveled to the region to identify ways to support those in need. In a program led by Haley Johnson, HRS True Hope began a relationship with church leaders in Juchitan and Matias Romero Avendano. Initial financial assistance helped with immediate needs for those who lost homes and resources in the earthquake.

Annual trips to Oaxaca, Mexico began, providing opportunities to worship with and encourage the local churches. Alongside faith partners from Piedras Negras, Mexico, HRS True Hope provides leadership training for adults and teaching materials for children.

2023

Claire Bradley was hired as the Project & Financial Coordinator. She has been a volunteer at HRS True Hope for over a decade, so she has been able to support the projects and connect with area managers and donor recipients on a personal level.

HRS True Hope expanded to collaborate with communities in the Chiapas region of Mexico.

2024

Mitch Holcomb, Payton Holcomb and Claire Shiramizu joined the Board. With their families involved at HRS True Hope from the beginning, they’ve developed a heart for those in need and are eager to facilitate support for the various regions and projects.

Joel and Jackie Holcomb have been dedicated leaders of True Hope with gifts in the areas of finance and relationship building. They are both business leaders running organizations for the past decade teaching and equipping others to be successful in the health and wellness industry. Joel and Jackie have 2 children and are active members in their church community. It is with great sadness that we said goodbye to Joel in 2022 as he left this earth and went home to his Heavenly Father. Jackie and their children are dedicated to continuing the work he began that centers around loving others and glorifying the Lord. Jackie now serves as the Lead for our South Mexico work and oversight for overall Mexico programs.
