SHELTER CHILDREN'S HOME

HRS True Hope partners with Africa Sustaining Angels to support new projects as well as provide a home and education for children who were abandoned, neglected, and/or abused. Inspired by the amazing work of the Director, Mary Muiruri, a group of volunteers known as Africa Sustaining Angels began.

Prior to 2018, the home was 100% dependent on donations to support the children’s needs. Then HRS TrueHope stepped in and created a new operating model driven by sustainability initiatives which generate revenue and reduce operating expenses. Since that time, the home has acquired cattle, goats, chickens, and honey bees. On site, there is a vegetable garden, water tower, and primary school that educates children living at the home as well as many in the community. Bread, eggs, milk, vegetable baskets, honey, and clean water are sold in town to generate revenue.

Today the shelter cares for 150 children and is 75% self-sufficient based on the success of our sustainability projects and program.
